Located in the Halifax Regional Municipality, and overlooking the city’s natural harbour, Northwood is the largest long-term care, independent living, home care and community outreach organisation for older adults in Eastern Canada.
Northwood is a place to live with many different living options for the older adult. We offer retirement living that consists of apartment living and assisted living. We also offer long-term care, and residential care.

Our Registered Nurses (RN) and Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) work to their full scope of practice and in a variety of roles. The RN delivers, oversees and directs quality resident care and the LPN has an opportunity to work in a leadership role, in addition to providing direct resident care.

Registered Nurses
The Registered Nurse is an experienced professional who through the use of the nursing process and therapeutic relationships, delivers, oversees and directs the planning, implementation and evaluation of resident care.
Qualifications:
- Must be eligible for registration in Nova Scotia and have approval from CRNNS to write the national CRNE examination
- Minimum 1-2 years in nursing, ideally with a focus in the care of older adults, within a nursing home or long term care facility
- Proficiency in the administration of medications
- Strong clinical and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently in a leadership role
- Ability to direct and supervise others
- Demonstrated ability in problem-solving, conflict resolution and decision making.
Licensed Practical Nurses
The Licensed Practical Nurse is an experienced professional who works to full scope of practice as a member of the interdisciplinary team. He/she has an opportunity to work in a leadership role in addition to providing direct resident care.
Qualifications:
- Must be eligible for registration in Nova Scotia and have approval from CLPNNS to write the national CPRNE examination
- Minimum 1-2 years in nursing, ideally with a focus in the care of older adults, within a nursing home or long term care facility
- Recent clinical experience including medication administration and leadership duties
- Proficiency in the administration of medications
- Strong clinical and interpersonal skills
- Ability to direct and supervise others
- Demonstrated ability in problem-solving, conflict resolution and decision making
