Albert suspends two immigration streams

The province of Alberta has put a freeze on two of the streams of its Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP).

The Family Stream and the US Visa Holder Category have both been temporarily suspended, until further notice.

The current job market and economic conditions are responsible for this temporary cancelation.

If you have submitted your application for one of these streams before 23 August, it will still be processed.

“We will continue to process applications for people who have the skills our growing economy needs,” says Thomas Lukaszuk, Minister of Employment and Immigration for the province of Alberta.

The province is shifting the focus of the program to nominating people who currently work in permanent jobs and/or who have job offers in occupations that are considered in-demand.

The AINP will continue to accept applications under the following streams of its provincial nomination program:

• Skilled workers
• Semi-skilled workers in certain occupations
• International students
• Compulsory trades
• Engineering occupations
• Self-employed farmers
