Manitoba immigration a great success

With over 13,500 people choosing to settle in Manitoba under the province’s immigration programme in 2009 alone, it’s easy to see why the government is calling it a success.

Thanks to the programme, the province attracted the highest number of migrants since the start of modern record-keeping in 1946.

“Manitoba’s immigration initiative has been very successful, not only because more and more newcomers are coming to Manitoba, but because the settlement and language-training assistance being offered are helping them succeed,” explains Premier Greg Selinger.

He adds that “evidence consistently demonstrates that Manitoba’s immigrants experience one of the highest employment rates and lowest unemployment rates in Canada”.

According to preliminary figures, Manitoba has already welcomed 3214 immigrants in the first three months of 2010. This number represents an increase of 11.9% over the same period in 2009.
