Saskatchewan launches new immigration website

The government of Saskatchewan has launched a new immigration website to welcome and help newcomers, and it includes an application feature that is the first of its kind in Canada.

The new website contains useful information for people moving to the province, as well as an online application feature for the Saskatchewan Immigration Nominee Program (SINP).

"This new website will serve as an important gateway for newcomers arriving in Saskatchewan and will help connect them with the information, people, resources and services they need to stay and succeed in Saskatchewan," commented Rob Norris, Advanced Education, Employment and Labour Minister and Minister responsible for Immigration.

"This website is part of Saskatchewan's immigration strategy goals that include improving the SINP's application processing and providing more focused and effective settlement services and resources," added Norris.

With the launch of this new online application feature, the province hopes to simplify the application process for migrants wishing to settle in Saskatchewan.

The new website also includes profiles of real immigrants to Saskatchewan, as well as a number of tools to help foreign residents settle in the province.

In 2009, a total of 2914 people were invited to settle in Saskatchewan through the SINP. Counting with their families, this represents an extra 9000 residents in the province. The current target for 2009-10 is even higher: 3400 nominations that should result in a total of 10,000 new residents.
