Fewer Canadians on employment benefits

Statistics Canada has revealed that the number of Canadians receiving employment insurance benefits has fallen for the third consecutive month in December.
The number of beneficiaries fell to 744,000, 40,100 fewer than the number registered in November. The improvement was felt across all Canadian provinces, especially in Ontario, Québec, British Columbia and Alberta.
The number of people collecting unemployment benefits reached its peak in June 2009, but has fallen by 85,300 since then.
