Candace’s move to Canada was sponsored by her common-law partner

After meeting her Canadian partner while on holiday in Mexico, Candace applied for a family visa and now calls Canada home.Candice and Charlotte

“Charlotte and I met at a resort in Mexico while we were both on holiday and, after two weeks of sun and snorkelling, we were inseparable. Charlie is Canadian and I’m from London so we faced a bit of a dilemma as to where we were going to live. In the end we decided on Edmonton, Alberta – Charlie’s hometown.

“It took a while before I could move to Canada permanently (I had a lot of loose ends to tie up in England), but I finally emigrated permanently 14 months after we met. Charlie was able sponsor me through a Family Class sponsorship visa as her common-law partner.

“We have now bought a house in an Edmonton suburb and live with our three ‘boys’ [our Weimaraner dogs]. Living in Canada has been a huge change for me. I was a true London girl, and Edmonton seems tiny and quiet by comparison. I still go back to England a few times a year to get my ‘fix’, but I wouldn’t change our lifestyle for the world. We have a great, close knit group of friends and the gay community in Edmonton is great.”
