Education in Yukon

Over 5000 students use the public education system in Yukon, administered in 28 schools in the territory, covering the school years from kindergarten to grade 12.

In the territory’s capital city, Whitehorse, alone, there are 14 public schools, including eight elementary schools, two catholic elementary schools, two secondary schools, one catholic secondary school and one K-12 French First Language school.

Instruction in Yukon is English-based for most students, although French and Aboriginal languages are also widely offered as a second language instruction.

The Yukon curriculum is based on the British Columbia program of studies, since the territory is a full partner of the Western and Northern Canadian Protocol (WNCP).

The Yukon College, a community college, issues certificate, diploma, partial and full degree programs.

The Advanced Education Branch of the Yukon Department of Education provides labour market programs and services, as well as trades certification and training programs.
